Cross-sensitization between poppy seed and buckwheat in a food-allergic patient with poppy seed anaphylaxis.
The opium poppy, Papaver somniferum L., is the source of both poppy seeds and opium. The commercially available seeds are widely used as ingredients for various kinds of food. IgE-mediated sensitization to poppy seeds is rare, but, if present, clinical symptoms are usually severe. Cross-sensitizations between poppy seeds and other food allergens have been described with sesame, hazelnut, rye gr...
متن کاملSeed-specific Aspartic Proteinase Feap12 from Buckwheat (fagopyrum Esculentum Moench)
Aspartic proteinase gene (FeAP12) has been isolated from the cDNA library of developing buckwheat seeds. Analysis of its deduced amino acid sequence showed that it resembled the structure and shared high homology with typical plant aspartic proteinases (AP) characterized by the presence of a plant-specific insert (PSI), unique among APs. It was shown that FeAP12 mRNA was not present in the leav...
متن کاملLysine rich 18 kDa storage polypeptide front buckwheat seed
Lysine, which is a limited amino acid in cereals, has a remarkably high content in buckwheat seed proteins. We have analyzed the pattern of 14C lysine incorporation into buckwheat seed polypeptides during the mid-maturation stage of seed development. Based on this approach, an 18 kDa polypeptide could be assigned as being lysine rich.
متن کاملRespiratory metabolism in buckwheat seedlings.
Young seedlings of buckwheat (Fagopyrum esculentum) respire in air with an RQ of unity. Analysis of respiratory substrates coupled with a study of the utilization of acetate-(14)C and glucose-(14)C suggest that both the Embden-Meyerhof-Parnas, tricarboxylic acid and pentose phosphate sequences participate in the total respiratory catabolism. In anoxia CO(2) dropped to one third of the aerobic ra...
متن کاملAldolase activity of serum albumins.
Bovine and human serum albumins catalyze the aldol reaction of aromatic aldehyedes and acetone, with saturation kinetics and moderate and opposite enantioselectivity. The reaction occurs at the binding site in domain IIa, and is inhibited by warfarin. Kinetic data are consistent with an enamine mechanism. The activity is conserved in a 103 aminoacid peptide derived from the albumin sequence.
